Christmas In Wisconsin

Christmas In Wisconsin

A Story by Kathryn Smith

Each Child Still Knows

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a white Christmas.

Many of us who live in the Midwest all agree that Christmas just isn't Christmas without the snow.

As I am writing this, most of my little town is down in the dumps because this year it's looking like our Christmas will be green.

Shoppers aren't as happy.

Bell ringers aren't so gleeful.

I'm seeing my town wither away in gloominess over a tiny factor.

For those of you who are upset, I thought I'd write you something.

I wanted to give you, and even myself a reminder.

Yes, no snow for Christmas is very strange, but Christmas will still arrive.

Christmas Cannon is one of my favorite Christmas songs.

For someone who works with children on a daily basis, some lyrics paint a powerful picture.

And knowing children, the words are so true.

This night we pray

Our lives will show

This dream he had

Each child still knows

We are waiting

We have not forgotten

With everything that has been going on in this world.

All the violence.

The war and death.

The turmoil and grief.

With everything we go through, remember that Christmas is also about celebrating another year of life.

Another year we got to live.

If you can manage to put yourself in a child's shoes, try it.

We all have that child inside of us somewhere!

That child full of wonder and anticipation.

Bursting with a light and happy heart filled with dreams.

Even without snow on Christmas, A child will still be waiting anxiously.

Each child still knows what the morning will bring.

Each child still knows the promises Christmas holds.

Each child still knows that no matter what happens, there will be magic.

If you're down about the snow this year, I want you to look around on Christmas day.

What do you see?

Chances are you'll see love and care.

Something that will always be there.

Even without a blanket of white.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year.

Go ahead and find the child you once were, and when you do, tell me if you're still upset on Christmas morning.

Merry Christmas Wisconsin! xo

Sorry it took so long for me to get to this one. In Pennsylvania we had the No Snow Blues too. But Christmas indeed did arrive, a time to celebrate the birth day of a baby and think of all that you have for which to be thankful.
Thank you for bringing back that warm feeling for a moment. take care...dan

Beautiful photos and good words.
"Go ahead and find the child you once were, and when you do, tell me if you're still upset on Christmas morning."
I agree. Need to find the joy of the child to enjoy Christmas. Thank you for sharing the outstanding story.

Very wonderful. I have traveled much of the Midwest, including through Missouri during a snow storm. This was very thought out, and I admire your ability.

Sometimes we get caught up in this world's affairs, and we forget about how many family members and friends we have. That is what is really important.

Anyways, cheers! Happy holidays to you and your loved ones! :)
