Painful Memories

Painful Memories

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Painful Memories
Thoughts can be of bitter fruits
or poisoned berries….
….and they endure.
They scar deep the psyche
till the record scratched
can play no more,
and we beg to stop
such pregnant melodies
inside our heads.
Such screeching,
nails on blackboard howls
that slits our ears
from tortured skulls
and dashes fragile hopes
upon such jagged rocks
of hate.

They endure and play over and over like a record stuck....tormenting...
...and hopes turn to hate.

You create a perfect picture of that inferno here John! :
"and dashes fragile hopes
upon such jagged rocks
of hate."

Thanks for sharing "Painful Memories" - An emotional write I could absolutely relate to! - Divya

True. Thanks Leigh
This is a piece that really gets under my skin--in a great way actually. The description of the chalkboard, specifically, raised the hair on my arms, and subdued that feeling I think you wanted out of your readers.

Again, great job!

It hurt just enough to remind me I'm still alive ;-)
You handled this very well--
I am very "fond" of "till the record scratched
can play no more,"
and
"dashes fragile hopes
upon such jagged rocks"
I might have left off the last line
had I penned this but I didn't so there it is

Thanks SW
i used to take meticulous care of my records, so much so that my friends and family though i was right off my rocker. but with life...for that to become scratched as such and be stuck on that pregnant pause, well that's just unforgivable. scratch my record, that's one thing...scratch my life, you owe me forever. excellent write, john!

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
