Treading the Boards

Treading the Boards

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

When love calls.....

"

Treading the Boards

I stand in the hallway,

expectant, entranced

as I await your entrance.

Envisaging the sight of your eyes,

those luscious lips,

the wondrous mane of

your silky black hair.

The swell of your breasts,

the sway of your hips.

I long for the smell of your perfume

upon your soft neck.

I hear your approach,

open the door,

and our similes collide like stars

as our hearts begin to pump.

One mere touch, the spark

to light the bonfire of desire.

No words, no direction

no doubt and no hesitation.

For we know this script off by heart

and now ad lib at will.

These are the parts

we have yearned to play

for all of our days,

and this production is set

for a long and much acclaimed run.

But is it a performance at all? Is it just a natural occurrence in the grand scheme of things? In either case, I can tell you the imagery you employed made it all so clear in my mind's eye. The urgency, the attraction, the sensuality of it all....wonderful! Lydi**

Thank you so much Lydi!
Treading the boards - the ultimate performance John - I bet this one brought the house down. I love the way your words do a kind of cinematic close up for the reader. We are always brought to within a hairs breadth of the players.

Thank you Anto!

This to me speaks of a beautiful moment in time and a loving relationship - there is emotional investment from both parties involved. My favourite line is "and our similes collide like stars".

However, (and this may be me reading too much into it) it also has a tinge of sadness to it as well. This scenario is too comfortable, too well "scripted" as if this is a stolen moment between to people who can't or shouldn't be together. This regularly scheduled "performance" is the full extent of the relationship which can never be anything more. If makes for a glorious season but inevitably must come to an end.
