On the Horns

On the Horns

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

People can be impervious to the pain and frailty of others.

"

On the Horns

I am encased in bubble wrap

lined with thorns.

My delicate nature

protected

whilst the thorns

remind me to feel pain.

And don't people

just love to burst

those little cells;

they cannot resist

popping

those nurturing balloons

that keep me feeling

safe,

while also pressing those

spinose teeth

into my flesh.

The world is a cruel place and those who are sensitive know that all too well. Still, I would not change myself. Sensitivity is a good thing. We feel things others never will. The metaphor is great and the image perfect. lydi**

No one knows one's extent of pain one suffers or endures cos we are all different just like women handle colds better than men who feel like dying. A profound write John

Yeah, though I'd best do before I peg it lol!
Brilliant metaphor , some people take too much pleasure in hurting others or in this case bursting their bubbles!
Love this John! :)

" encased in bubble wrap lined with thorns. My delicate nature", That was such a great analogy. Great mind. I really liked it. Thank you.

Many thanks Willard.
The bubblewrap is a superb metaphor John. That urge to burst them akin to some people's insistance on being jagged and pointy to others out of ignorance or spite.
Good One my fiend.

Cheers Anto and hands off my bubble wrap!
I think poets, especially, are vulnerable to those who want to stab painful words at them...

make us feel low self-esteem----but deep inside, we know we do the best we can...and that those who make fun of or criticize have their own shortcomings and demons...

really like this one, John.
