.......Play On

.......Play On

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

If music be the food of love.......

"

.......Play On

As you pluck at this lyre,

harp not as to loves cause

for indeed that is the fall

made by many before the fall.

That is the catalyst to the brutal

demise of love's short life.

Look not to examine the origins

of this heart's species,

for here we know that only

the fittest will survive.

And those not so robust

will wither upon the vine of romance.

Avoid the stethoscopes' intrusion

as you try to diagnose this affliction

for no delusion can be so sought,

and all that has gone before

will be no greater than the past.

And seek not an answer

in the stars, for mercury

is indeed made of heavy metal

that will weigh upon your trust.

And there in lies disaster

for us both.

Have you ever seen the movie, "Bright Star"? It tells of the life, love and tragic death of John Keats. I must have written about ten poems after seeing it. The inspiration was intense, like nothing I've ever experienced before.

I can relate to your influence here of Shakespeare, and applaud you!

I was fresh from seeing a live performance of Twelfth Night' lol. Many thanks Richard.
Tales of love and romance lost in a theatrical way. Like a river just go with the flow and not against it!

Indeed Andrew, indeed. Many thanks.
This appears to be a beginning of something. I like the descriptions in this piece. Lots of love and lost love.

we analyze love too much, and then analyze ourselves right out of it....don't question, just feel.

nicely played out here in this poetic song.
