King of the Jungle

King of the Jungle

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Too often deceived.

"

King of the Jungle

And as I fall

into this pit of misery

yet again

I have no desire

to rise from the ashes.

I have not the strength

for it has been sapped

by so much brutal loss,

by so much sadness.

I have not the stomach

for I have been poisoned

by the bile of deceit

too often.

I have not the fortitude

for my endurance

has been worn to nought,

eroded.

And I have not the courage

for my heart has been

ripped from my breast,

my lions mane shorn

and I am weak.

Too weak to stand.

And you,

you felled

this king of beasts.

Good to see you again John. You have been missed. Nicely done piece. Words of deceit and pain with great analogies. And of course "My Sweet Lord", one of my favorites from George.

I generally do not review poetry because I know little about it and have never really appreciated it. So with that disclaimer (hmmm, why read on?), I was attracted to this because of the title. Having just posted a piece that involves a lion, I wondered about your poem. Well, of course, it's not about a lion but a strong person (man I assume) who is worn out by the deception experienced at the hands of the person who is being addressed. The imagery of his physiological demise is potent culminating in the shorn mane of a lion. Very interesting and thought provoking poem. Thank you for sharing it.

Many thanks Taylor. I am honoured you have taken the time to look at this.
There comes a point in time when the heart, mind and body can take no more... it's sad when something once wo powerful and passionate has to call it quits...nicely done, John

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
