The Silly Season

The Silly Season

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

How the Brits love to complain about the weather!

"

The Silly Season

We await the first rays of summer,

bemoaning the drear of winter months.

We count the days till spring

with its promise of relief for ailing bones

from damp and frost,

from snow and bitter wind.

We long to switch off central heating,

drain the pipes,

and discard the winter coats.

We long to open doors and windows,

fling them wide to the walls

and be freed from stuffy airless rooms,

trapped behind dingy, drawn curtains.

And yet, when the sun eventually arrives

with every brighter morn,

and the swelter of June begins,

we bemoan that too!

so true...this poem is reflective of how people view life...what they don't have, they want, and then when they get it, the are dissatisfied and want back what they had before...philosophical...

I have a few English friends and this sounds exactly like them! I think that is a very common ground to meet at, lol. The weather is already up for discussion. Growing up in Colorado where you get 300+ days of sun you're practically begging for an overcast day. This a fun read and you captured the banter and mood wonderfully John. Great work. And perfect title:)
