Seascape

Seascape

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Seascape painting by Alexander Shenderov

"

I feel like the bait

on a hook, on a line, on a rod,

cast into a sea of troubles

over and over again

as it boils in anger,

with the vengeance of

trident wielding gods.

Huge waves

crashing  like thunder upon

the sandy shores of every disaster

that has ever been known

 to human kind.

There is no king on earth

who could hold this tide back

as it sweeps relentlessly,

like a pack of

blood thirsty zombies,

to overwhelm me

time and time again.

Hoping for calm,

I simply stand there,

defenceless and naked,

on dry land,

staring out at the ocean,

watching the horizon

as my footprints

are obliterated.

Powerful words and thoughts shared John. I love the sea. Cannot be controlled and show us. How small we are. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

THank you for saying so Coyote John. Many thank yous.
The feeling of overwhelmed by life, especially by sorrow and loss seems like in the midst of an ocean and struggling to stay afloat... wonder will I ever master this sensation? The flow of your poem has such a force, it runs like an ocean. Conveys message wonderfully.

You are very kind Mrudula. many thank yous!
a nice mix of mythology, horror and the idea of being human and mortal. Wondering if we will leave a footprint to say, "hey, we were here!"

you`re welcome
I liked the reference to King Canute here. Time and tide waits for no man. I got the feeling of being swamped. Overcome by the difficulties of life. That's what you gave me here John. Plenty of imagery here as well as as touching on the uncomfortable. Nicely conveyed lines.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
