Winter of Discontent

Winter of Discontent

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

The lucky ones find safe harbour and moor up for life.

"

Love slips silently

from my arms,

as it has

many times.

It falls away like

autumn leaves,

and leaves me standing

bowed and exposed

and naked

and cold.

There, in that

unforgiving empty

tomb,

I hang my head

and wonder

what is the secret

of longevity

in love's latitudes?

On what wind

will dedicated love

prevail?

A beautiful and sad poem written John. Love, a forever love like my grandparent, 70 years. I wished for. Maybe we were carved from a different time. Thank you for sharing the amazing words and poetry.

You are welcome John.
a sad lonesome poem that touches everyone at some point fear not friend and fool, the winter of discontent is followed by the spring of discomfort, the summer of disenchantment and the autumn of despair, ah, the existential angst of it all,

John,
I am a fortunate person . . . the wife and I just marked 45 years of marriage, coming up on 48 years of being together. The "wind" has been both hot and cold but has always kept us together.

I understand John. My daughter has gone through abuse.
...It falls away like
autumn leaves,
and leaves me standing
bowed and exposed
and naked
and cold...
Great imagery, it's a polished image that leaves an anticalmatic moment starched and empty.
Wish I had cooked it up.

Indeed so Markus but some are not subject to such passing whims. What is the secret? Many thanks.
i haven't found the secret of longevity in relationships....bound to be alone...but really not lonely...
it's a cold but necessary balance.

lately i have felt this emptiness and loneliness. not entirely sure what to fill it with. i've been meditating and praying a lot about these feelings and it seems as though the answer always comes back to love, given and received. hope you find a love and peace that is longlasting.

The answer to your query is a hard one to answer, my friend. Much like winning a sweepstakes after you already became a millionaire these things seem to happen when you don't want them:0 If you didn't care if she loved you that is when she will. but if you do care... she wont! So like the filthy wretched box of cookies at the top of the proverbial shelf that the kid cant reach. He wants it cause he cant get um, it could be filled with steamed broccoli for all he knows! Its the idea of them that draws his attention not the actual contents so your choice are be unobtainable or be the right contents of the one you loves desire. sad poem but an understood and well conveyed one. that is what the bunny thinks:)
