Digging My Heals In!

Digging My Heals In!

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Inspired again by a comment from Coyote John!

"

The older I get

the less I flirt

with death.

My demise

is now nearer

than the end of the tunnel

closer than the horizon,

no longer a distant star.

There it looms

from the shadows

trying to intimidate me,

trying to still my heart

and stop it dead.

But I have grown

all too canny

to allow fate

to seal that deal

with the devil.

I have a thick skin,

an impervious layer

of psychological armour

that lets me

ward off his kind,

as he lays in wait for souls.

I like to imagine that our poet fears not death, fights of the devil and win the battle at the end. A constant struggle indeed for us mortals to be thrown in the lions' den to show our mettle and survival skills. You are a fighter John.

Let him wait in the shadows and flirt with love instead...it wards off death and illness...Here is to life and the ever after:) Thought provoking and beautifully penned!

Let us be the soul snatchers and rob Him of his foul deeds. For death silently waits for us all. I say let our light be what monster's dread. :) I think there is a story in that :)

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
