Poetic Tutelage

Poetic Tutelage

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Not aimed at the many who have oiled my path, and to whom I remain eternally grateful. Simply me rationalising my inability to get my head around form!

"

The love of poets

for their art

is a razor blade

as sharp as any

instrument.

There is a precious

defence of form

and structure,

a need to maintain

the shape

and the rule

of poetic laws.

Yet a liberal

need to sin in

gracious

acknowledgement

to less able folk.

To raise them

from their Neanderthal

roots

and rescue them

form such an ignorant

existence.

But me, I am

a cave dweller

still scrawling

rudimentary

images

upon animal skin

or the chalk

walls

of my  grotto.

And I will

always

remain

so.

Excellent points you make here dear John. I do agree and nothing like that. From knowing you from long ago, you are truthful, creative and wise. You say it like it is. Not trying to hide or smear. I enjoy your writes.

You are welcome...
Well your poem have quiet clear structure and form. So you need to more work on your cave craft. By the way i hate when my lines don't create nice graphic design but also i dislike when all lines are same lenght so i struggle every day with my form. Maybe i shall call my style precise chaos . Check out and let me know.

Maybe you can try black out technique or some Da Da will not hurt neither.
The caveman doesn't know pretense. He writes what he feels without cloaking it in finesse. That's true poetry actually. One should go for what suits them best. Art is a personal thing.

If I lived back when Caves were homes... I would want a Bed and a Table and Chairs. Hopefully a warm fire and dreams of future Castles by the Sea. gently, Pat

Actually, there is something to be said for cave drawings. At least you know what they're about, which is more than can be said for a lot of post modernist and avant garde blather.
