My Mum

My Mum

A Poem by Richard

Took a great big giant bite out of my porridge this morning
That my Mum poured into my bowl
I thanked her well and spilled a giant bite into my lap
She poured my juice because I was in a hurry
I told her 1,000 times last night in advance..
“I have to go to an appointment meeting tomorrow Mum DO NOT spill porridge on me!”
I’m an adult as far as I can tell
but that doesn’t stop me from riding my bike upside down
Spitting sunflower seeds in the presence of sunflowers
I asked my Mum, while she was leaning over a mop,
in the shape of a ‘C’
“Why do mother’s always love their kids so much no matter what?”
she took a break from her yogurt spill (Now with the addition of porridge) and explained to me looking at the birdbath window unquestionably as if she’d answered this in her head a thousand times..
“O, it’s just how we operate” she smiled
As if she’d been perfectly ready all along but shortened her answer.
I hurried off to my appointment that afternoon thinking hard about what my mother had said.
I came to the simple conclusion: I love my mum

AH ONCE AGAIN, I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR WORK! Such a sweet piece this is, so full of love. It really gets across how much mothers really do love their children. And again with the imagery, you are fantastic at what you do. I love the line " spitting sunflower seeds in the presence of sunflowers", I just love it. This is a beautiful piece that you should forever be proud of.

Wow ... I just ... flattered :)
Sweet sentiment here. I really like the idea of a son taking the time to really see the sacrifices and emotions of his mother; it is a touching tribute. Lots of good storytelling here, and nice imagery. I wonder if maybe the lines could be shortened a little and the length a little too while still not losing the effect...? Just a thought. Overall, very touching, and I think your mum would be proud.
