unafraid

unafraid

A Poem by Richard

I am not afraid

of the grass and the shoes

the possibility of hurt

the lampshade and turning on the news

the golden moments and the black ones

life being rocky at best

and the imitation of miracle

the crow who steals from the mailbox

the turnpike late at night

and walking down the wrong path where the flowers died

and trying to revive them

I am unafraid of my teeth

and the sweet nothings being something stupid

I'm not afraid of being told not to tell you

there's nothing ugly about you

that your hair is your mental health trying to tell you something important

and the glass that could hold anything

but doesn't

being smothered in kisses doesn't scare me

chocolate lying around in the sun with nothing better to do

but still

I'm afraid

of real
