Chemicals

Chemicals

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

The chemicals were there
the smell, feel, taste
they were careful not to uncork the vial
temptation so strong

They were each other's half
they were careful not to slice the middle of the apple
candied and sweet

He came into her life
on a hot July day by circimstance
perhaps in retrospect, serendipity
meant to be
the timing was, it was
off like a clock with a broken
tick-tock

Came he did even though the clock was
off and out of time
to look at each one seperately
they were ordinary

He tall and thin
lanky eyes of ice-blue
though so warm
one of the last cowboys
a dying breed

She tall dark hair with eyes to match
warm and inviting with a slight foreign accent
ordinary by standards

To see them together
now this was another story of it's own
both looked beautiful, mystical and so magical
electricity sparked , flew shooting
arrows with tips of red love into each other's heart

The timing was off
broken like a clock
the love was so apparent
they fit each other like a glove

He asked her to come with him
with a shakey voice and tears falling
she told him all the reasons she could not

Being in tune with each other
these things he understood
with tears falling he pulled her to him
she did not resist

One kiss? The temptation so great
the timing so off
she touched his face
he drove away out of her life
just as he had driven into it

She sank to her knees
he could see her in his rearview
through the hot July haze and
red dust from the dirt road

Never did they forget the other
as a love like this comes but once in a life time
light years apart, still their
love was not lost

Bittersweet beauty in this poem that tells a story, Chloe! No matter how much love there is between two people, sometimes it just doesn't work. There was a song a few years ago entitled "Sometimes love is not enough" and this came to mind as I read your words. No, I don't know where it came from, but I do know I liked it a lot. Lydia

Texas? Deep in the heart of Texas? Or was it Oklahoma? Where I first saw red a dirt road? Or did you have a better half already then, and recognized a second? So many days so little time. Guess I'll guess again then

Not really, I can't really say where this came from.

But, all I can say is that it's really good. I wouldn't really call it a poem, because it's really long and it got extra details, so it's more of the story with some spices of the poem.

Other than that, it's all still good and it's a great tear jerker writing you go there. Keep it up the good work...

Beautifully penned, Chloe. You describe perfectly the passion that exists between two who, for one reason
or another, must part.

A beautiful piece well written and its origin doesn't matter its presence and feel do. I thought this was very well placed to project your thoughts and bring the reader in. Great Write!

very unique way to tell an intimate connection, a like the tick tock clock metaphor and the way you began the poem was quite interesting, very unconventional way to begin an intimacy poem. They were each other's half
they were careful not to slice the middle of the apple
candied and sweet

HUH, lets see the last cowboy would be the friend we have talked about or Donovans father would be my guess. This is an uplifting piece full of hope for the future. A once in a lifetime love, a soulmate as it where.
Yes I married mine and although it didn't happen in this time and place, I know it will because love like that
never dies it waits for the right time and place. Great emotional piece.

I can't tell where it comes from, but really it doesn't matter to me. Whatever the inspiration was, be it your life or something, I'm just glad you wrote it. There is a timeless quality to this (no pun intended with all the clock references) that makes it feel like it could have written about these two people today or many years ago. I like that. I also like the journey this poem took me on. It wasn't simple and there wasn't a happy ending, but it is clear that the time these two people spent together was well spent.

Excellent work. This is one of your best. You've been writing a lot of those lately. Go girl!

Oh, Chloe! This is a masterpiece. So sad yet so beautifully penned. I was with you through the entire piece and have been there myself. When people are so in love but the timing is off it can be heart breaking, but always remembered :)

Much luv,
Jenny
