The Child Has Gone

The Child Has Gone

A Poem by Paul Bell

The child has gone
Such a long time
They searched like everywhere
But something told them
The child has gone
They started looking inwards
Watching expressions
Looking for that clue
So strange, nothing
The child has gone
Days turned to weeks
Nothing
Nationwide alert
Calls came in, including the cranks
The child has gone
The search died down
Talk spread
Children stayed indoors
Fear became the byword

She watched within the large tree
Her secret hiding place
It was fun
The earth collapsed pulling her under
She tried to scream
Too late
The child has gone.

Yes, that is always at the back of our minds.
A lesson learnt too late to save her from her games. I'm sure there is a lesson in there for us all Paul.

Yeah, sometimes we never think of the simple possibilities, before the whole media thing gets going.
There are so many things that can happen to a child that makes them grow up over night. Child molestation is one, A thought rousing write. Valentine

interesting...because i don't feel this is a literal missing person...this is someone who has felt the pain of live, grown up too soon...screamed inside...no one heard...but all kept searching for whom she had been...they wanted that little girl again.

Thanks Jacob for your insightful review. How are things going after the election.
There are real life stores that could parallel to this. Strong write, good lesson and moral (if I'm understanding it right)

You're most welcome, Paul.
Have you seen 'Stranger Things' ?
Couldn't stop my mind from connecting this poem to the show.
