Eye to Eye

Eye to Eye

A Poem by Pauline Marie Daley

A story was being told,

The words coming from me.

So I looked over, so bold,

To see what your reaction would be.

But the eyes that met mine,

Were so far away.

Another place, another time,

Why, I can't say.

Love and longing so combined,

To understand them I do try.

Happy and sad all intertwined.

You're beautiful brown eyes.

A beautiful short poem. The eyes tell us so much in just a glimpse, thus the poem being short help convey that as well. Excellent write!

I like to begin with the earliest works of writers here on Writer's Cafe. I really like this poem, Pauline. I am reminded of the many times that I have tried to communicate with others just to see them distant - thinking of other things while I am speaking. Then again, there have been those times that I have been distant while others are speaking to me. I am really bad at that.

Thank you for reviewing one of my poems. I like to share, but I do not want to be selfish. People like us come to places like Writer's Cafe to be read or heard, but we need to remember that listening is more important. I will now read more of your writing. =o)
