The Plight of the Sloop

The Plight of the Sloop

A Poem by Pennington

Dark clouds and strife fill my vision
There is a ship on a stormy wild sea
Trying to find its way through the narrows
Trying to survive through dark thieving night

The captain face is free of indecision
Though he yearns for his ship to be free
To make it through the challenges and the harrows
He longs for the coming again of light

Their path its seems an incision
as they sail on silently
The captain's brow now furrows
as he senses not all is right

The wind the waves the rain they pound
'gainst the sloop thrust in their den
All Neptune's wrath unleashed her
The helm stays steady neath the captain's hands

The elements bent on destruction the ship surround
The sea opens up to take her in
The sloop's poor fate now seems sure
To lie here twixt the maelstroms, rocks, and sands

But in their time of need a way is found
as into the hole the ship does spin
The captain resists surrender in all its lure
Rather than go down with her he'll sail her to distant lands

The sloop thrice spins round and round
Then she breaks through the clouds indeed most thin
In the captain's hands the crew's fate is secure
For he saved them all thieves, cutthroats, and brigands

Now on quiet water in the noon day Sun
our hero ship the sloop does run
All Neptune's plans have been frayed, undone
Yet the voyage is not over, It has only begun
