Summer Night

Summer Night

A Poem by Pennington

Warm summer nights clear my head
so i can think about you and me
i thinkback to all the things you've said
and I realize that we could never be
but i guess you've known that from the start
that's why i never won your heart

So ill try to say goodbye
its taken me far to long
and i still will wonder why
i never showed you my song
but now you should know there's someone new
and baby she the reason i can't ever be with you

I stayed as long as I could
I waited years for any sign or clue
I waited when I didn't think you would
I fought so hard to try to be with you
But I just can't wait anymore
So I'm taking another door

And if it wasn't so cliche
Friends I would beg us to be
but we wouldn't last that way
you've always enchanted me
but some time I'll see you around
but I'm done worshipping the ground

On a cold october night
I'll think of you some how
But I'll remember we weren't right
for each other then or now
So i guess this is goodbye
nice thing is I know you won't cry

She's my one focus and goal
and my heart you've just unwon
I'm not gonna sell my soul
So I think I'll follow the sun
And the our passion and love flickers like a light
and silently and finally sputters out in a summer night
