The Eve of Battle

The Eve of Battle

A Poem by Pennington

Darkness comes, It blots out the Son
My enemies all surround me
I see every thing I have worked on come undone
So I have no choice I must flee

I find shelter, far from fear and sin
My enemy surrounds me on every side
He makes a horrendous din
But it is in the Fortress of The Lord that I hide

It is my stronghold
It is my saving grace
Here I am free from the cold
Of our sinful tainted race

I'm scared to death
That I have lost my way
I wait and hold my breath
Praying he won't find me here today

And though my ancient foe
is knocking at the gate
He seeks to work me woe
He would fill my life with hate

I must hold fast
To what I know is right
An trust God to get me past
The darkest hour of life's night

I do not fear him
For my Lord will never fail
And though the light wll start to dim
This fortress he can't scale

I will sleep safely like a child tonight
Here in the Holy light
And I know it'll be all right
My Savior will guide me through this fight
