American Anodyne

American Anodyne

A Poem by Perdition

Will it come as a boat

an anodyne or two

bursting through my lip

rose and sighed

draw me away to the top of

the hill where turkey tails

grow out from wildfire

My delusions are always so clear

near as this world that is breaking around me

mad as the life inside rusted bones

where the swiftness of eyes no longer see

Or will it come as a lion through the artery

thrown like a wish and a cork, floating sea to sea

chewing on my smile of spruce twig

I wonder if I’d even know

It just feels like staring back into nineteen

life without a clue

what voice, what mind

what kiss of night is rare enough to

break the innocence in me

my delusions are also clear...I think I am nineteen again, still...
physically and emotionally...
I never wanted to grow up...and won't let that kiss of night break my innocence,
I just won't...
I like your line of the turkey tails growing out of wildfire.
