The Leap

The Leap

A Poem by Perdition

Was it hard

the flip of our fate with a penny

the slit in my pendulum hand

sun, red as this melting

and the stars that formed this lion

locked inside his paper cage

The irretrievable virtue

our innocence embraced

Did you really want this

the calm crescendo played before we ever began

the sound of rain flowered from your empty bed

are we nothing but darkness and the cold literature of space

if nothing else, we held the keys to life

cloth and rend

and knowing we still bled

I heard the dying in the mountains

the walk we never shared our beads and tongue entwined

I was only a child when I leapt from this window

down into freedom, out into life

caught, of course

and forced to leap again and again until I saw that freedom came with an iron heart

Until I learned that life was the lover's wound

and as we crawled into our being

salvation bled out the eyes

I stood in n the harshness of your shadow

shivering day against day

waiting

welcoming the chance

one touch, one taste waiting to end all of me

with only the word you held with a kiss and the sound of your voice

I longed to hold you as well and ask had you missed me

This is beautiful and profound on so many levels. I do not like to over-analyze poems, and it's hard to pick a favorite line in this fabulous piece, but if I could, it might be "are we nothing but darkness and the cold literature of space" Just stunning.

Oh my how I loved these lines
I heard the dying in the mountains
the walk we never shared our beads and tongue entwined
brought me back to the 70's!!!
Another great line
I stood in n the harshness of your shadow
shivering day against day
I could pick apart every line that I have now read and reread several times but in the end I would say.
This is such a wonderful poem...
Loved it!!!
