Light a lamp - Sorrow for a lost friend

Light a lamp - Sorrow for a lost friend

A Poem by The_Ancient_Rock

Since you've been gone things have turned a bit worse.
I miss you old fellow...
The sounds of joy have left this house...
A tomb for happy memories, a place for dreams to die.
Surrounded by dirty walls I have come to despise.
Death seems to roam and chase away all youth and life.
The days have turned a bit darker.
Light fades away slowly.
Time runs faster pulling me into the precipice.
Oh, where have you gone, days of yore?
Is old age marked and scarred by all the things we have lost in youth?
Half way there... Seems like the bigger half if such a thing would ever be possible.
Stars still shine bright and pierce through the black veil of night.
May one shine for you old friend.
May you forever shine bright in the darkest sky.
Since you are gone I've lost part of me.
Pain and sadness permeate my skin, flesh and bones.
Insanity gets a hold of me, reaching deep inside my mind, as I struggle to keep my mental health.
The scales may have tipped just a bit out of balance.
And through a haze of smoke and numbness I glance at my future days.
I try to give hope to others and keep none for myself.
Feel like if I could save just one, I would save the world.
The hour may be midnight but there is still hope against the darkness.
Guess we all just have to light a lamp.
In times of madness keeping our sanity is the best chance we have.
We mourn our lost, bury our broken dreams and carry on.
Soldier on soldier...
Soldier on.
Life is a war that can never be won.
But the best thing we can do is just to keep on trying.
And keep on fighting untill the bitter end.
So soldier on my friend...
And may you be remembered.
Your light may be extinguished, but you still shine bright in memory.

You brought a lump to my throat with this write. I felt the full depth and devastation that the loss of a loved one can bring. You took me through your current journey of grief and the impact and emptiness it has left on your life and yet you still think of others and try to give them hope. May your friend always be that star looking down on you and I hope time will eventually soften the rawness that is with you. Such a sad piece to read, but so well conveyed Ancuent Rock.

This is so soulfully deep. The loss of a loved or cherished friend weighs heavy within our hearts and souls. It can bring great melancholy and make the world seem bleak and void of color.

I do hope your dear friend gets to be a star shining brightly down upon you and so that when you gaze onto the black speckled sea at night your way is brightened by your friend.

Great tribute and Ithe word voices and the way this is written is certainly poetically done well.

You are welcome!!
Many of the things that trouble the aging are described in this one. For some of them, the only defense is to dwell as much as possible in the present moment.

A very poignant tribute to your old friend, with whom you must have had a fine relationship.... I can feel your grieving for him... much sadness and moodiness... still you honor him for his life with you.... and you seem to be half way there.... life is tough, but we must try to make the best of it while we can....
Nice write!
