Thoughts on Fantasy

A poem about how we fantasize about anything and why. (I decided to avoid the more undesirable fantasies)

Man, desirous of a life beyond his own

Constantly searches for a way to move past

To discover more

To transcend

A life he knows all too well

One of misery and torment

Of grief and fear

And of little joys

And little certainty

That are never enough

Only breaking him

Making him desperately want more

More comfort, happiness, and security

Or he wants change

An interruption in the monotony of life

A thrill that gives him purpose

Meaning to act

Reason to forge himself

And not give up

Creating for himself a world

Limited only by his mind

That grants him his desires

Gives him a slight but strong hope

Distracts him from life's distresses

And frees him into his own land he can truly love

A land he builds with his own cognitive tools

And takes pleasure in it all

Man supplies himself with fantastical freedom

To forget his pain

To move on with an artificial happiness

Always wishing to live his illusion

Which is pure fantasy

truth in your words here - man is but an expresson of life and within the folds of the universal blanket we shall forver progress - otherwise what - become fetid in a swamp with no life? we are born to fantasize for thats where the dreams are made to come true no?

For being just one fold in the universal blanket, man has had quite an impact on the place on which he currently resides. The universe has yet to be in our grasp, but does serve a great purpose by humbling the hearts of mankind, but as well encouraging us to keep moving, saying that there is still so much beauty for us too see. It is an open invitation for man to fulfill his destiny and take to the stars to make his mark on a universe that beckons him. Fantasy is a drive, but it is also a hindrance. It can encourage man to work for the seemingly impossible milestones, but it can also make him desperate for an impossible illusion. The latter is what I speak of in this poem.

interesting thoughts - impossible illusion you say - hmmmmmmm - i am a bg believer of we create our own reality and therefore nothing is impossible :) oh yes there is so much out there but because of so many factors we limit ourselves - we are stuck in idle - we just need to find a new gear X

Why do you think we limit ourselves if there are so many possibilities of limitlessness?

just by social conditioning, culture, what we have learned, what we perceive our brain capacity to be, what we have been told we can and cannot do, what we think we know.

I think we must learn it all then scrap the lot to understand true limitness - we are but atoms rising and falling throughout time and space and our only purpose is expression :)

So, you are saying we are blinded to our limitlessness by our cultural, social, and intellectual leaders and by default prevented from enacting our expression? Tell me this, why would those leaders do that to their followers?

Who needs a leader? All of our answers lie within.

Must find out own way home because we all have unique eyes in which to see the world .... I am not sure what it has to do with leaders - please explain ?

Because just as we are in the universe, the universe is also within us .... Meditate on it .... It all becomes clear X (ps I am not trying to be rude or anything) 😃

I know. Why is it that you believ all this?

why .... hmmm .... good question .... because to me it seems obvious, apparent .... to me the universe is one giant organism .... 'one' .... including us humans .... if we humans think that were are separate from the universe we are wrong .... we are ... like everything else .... just atoms rising and falling ..., the difference is for us we have given ourselves an identity if 'I', 'me' .... we have developed an ego .... this has caused us to believe we are not just a tiny weeny part of something bigger .... no ..... we are special ... and we are special .... each and every one of us .... but not in the 'i' sense .... no in the sense that we have been given the gift of life through a short burst of existence .... we can use in to express ourselves in whatever form we wish .... but to get back 'home', floating free .... we must rid ourselves of all of the silly man made ideologies of what is right and wrong, what we should and should not do, we must rid ourselves of our so call identities, free ourselves from the bondage and shackles that the human form gives us and unlearn all that has been taught, we must remember not to follow and race, creed or religion because it is ourselves that are the guides .... and most importantly .... learn to live right now, in the moment and just be .... for this time is really all we have ...

well that's my belief anyway :) what are your thoughts ?

Well, my beliefs undoubtedly contradict yours. Its interesting that you say all that, but I believe you have forgotten one very important question: Why did any of that happen?

Everything must have a reason for existence for it to have any meaning. If there is no reason, then there is no meaning, only pointless existence that will accomplish nothing. In the case of your veiws I don't believe any of it.

Why must things have meaning? Does a flower bloom for a purpose? What is the purpose?

In any case you don't have to believe or disbelieve ... Just be :-)

Interesting read that you have hear. Man is his own worst enemy and unfortunately the mind seems to go on some interesting journeys that do not provide a positive in life. More time needs to be spent learning and helping mankind and not just helping ourselves. There does seem to be a large narcissistic group of the "I" generation that is only concerned with there own life and have no vision or clue about the suffering in the world.

Nicely penned piece. Lots of thought provoking imagery.

This generation is becoming the "I" generation. Our focus has become our happiness and no one else's. We are so deadset on that that we have even gone to our government to ensure that it is given to us as a "provided right." That is not how its supposed to work. Thanks for the review.
