Empire Lost

Viracocha stirred from ancient timeless slumber

Thus arising from a calm and peaceful ocean depth

He travelled on mythical whisper clouds to Lake Titicaca

Where was fashioned the sun and all the ethnic groups

At first these new creations lay still in dormant status

Emerging instantaneously only at anointed time

From the most holy springs and sacred paqarina

Were born the chosen few children of the sun

They ruled the land by maintaining tyrannical power

Defeating all opponents with barbaric utmost force

A golden rod plunged centrepiece in claimed territory

So establishing an impressive ancient empire reign

Over ten million populace were governed by minority

Living suppressed in the shadows of golden temples

The embryonic subjects spoke thirty diverse dialects

But feared as one the injustices of their cruel authority

Rebellion across the realm challenged the ruling class

In tandem was incursion from foreign Hispanic power

And third an epidemic invasion of invisible diseases

Brought unyielding tragic demise to an empire’s soul

The largest and the richest the world had ever seen

Had disappeared from high glory into ruins of a dream

Broken perpetually from magnificence in past days

Once spectacular to see now a disastrous downfall

Inca sheds remembrance tears of eternal displeasure

Witnessed by those who know of these sad events

Every time the moon eclipses his disappointed face

And favour become paler as no sacrifice is made

I learn so much from you my friend. You are a veritable fountain of knowledge! And how you weave it all into your intricate, bejeweled lacework of poetry is Masterful. The downfall of the superior Pre-Inca and Inca civilizations should hold a lesson for us all indeed. We stand on the brink...the paqarina appears to have closed and Viracocha grows tired of our tyranny and intolerance. Tears...Amazing poem.
