Chef's Wisdom

Chef's Wisdom

A Poem by B

The same water that mashes a potato
Hardens an egg

Given the same blade
A carrot resists in restrain

A tomato simply opens up
Forming a flower

Facing a hardship
Only meant to make a heart softer

Never to stone

I guess at the end of the day

It's all about content
All held within

Nisreen:P, I may have told you before but I had a 19 year career as a cook graduating to chef, so this should have been right up my alley. When I found the chef part was used metaphorically I was delighted. There's an old expression that says you can put a doily under a pile of dogshit...it's still dogshit. The same idea seems to be the basis of your write: dress it up all you want but it's still the basic content that takes center stage. This is shorter than your regular format but equally as potent in making your point. Very well done, and Merry Christmas young lady! take care...dan

I love this. This is definitely my kind of writing, short and powerful with a solid metaphorical foundation. Nicely done.

I get really into things that interest me a bit often. I'm passionate about two subjects. Science and History. History a bit more than science, but I love both of those subjects. My mom tells me that when I was little, she had a hard time getting me to the school bus stop because I'd get distracted along the way by a certain plant, or a bug that I'd spend a lot of time exploring it and observing it. I used to love to classify things when I was little.

This poem, in a way reminds me of that. Did you know that the tomato comes from the Nightshade family of plants? That plant class also produces the famous Deadly Nightshade berry in which the toxin can be used in medicine to cure or it can be used as poison to kill. Everything in life has a "+" and a "-" symbol. A positive and a negative. A safe and unsafe. What I find fascinating is that even the "-" symbol, the negatives, and things that are deemed to be unsafe can also serve the purpose of good.
