A Word to Keep

A Word to Keep

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

A Word to Keep

How many times

Have you been let down

By promises unfulfilled?

A thousand times, and thousands from now.

Your heart breaks

When you place your hope in something unworthy.

All you want is a reliable source--

A word to keep.

Don’t lose heart,

For there is Someone true.

He is the Lord who willingly resides

On the inside of you.

His promises always live

To see fruition, arriving in His own speed.

He sends it out--

A word to keep.

May we be like He…

Word keepers in His Name.

Let us be known by our actions

And the truths we say.

As He lives in us,

May we be stewardesses of His peace.

For in hearts we are to instill

The Living Word to keep.
