When Angels Come to Call

When Angels Come to Call

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

When Angels Come to Call

With power and might

Are they sent forth.

To help, is their worth,

Obeying the call to make right

And respond to a need.

Strong and bold,

In His mercy, do they go.

Reverently in Godspeed.

Angels delivering grace

Unto those who call.

They go from before His face

With a rush, they come to rescue.

Honoring the Father,

By ministering unto me and you.

Prayers are answered,

Lives are saved true

And hearts become new.

Time is suddenly treasured

In moment of help.

A direct line

Having been made to the Divine,

Where hope dwells.

A power unleashed,

Breaking of strongholds.

Granting hope to believe

In the Lord of all.

A mighty work fulfilled

When angels come to call.

Since you read request me constantly, you get the unvarnished version.

This is the crux of what I do not like about some spiritual writing. First & foremost, this is nauseatingly positive, like only someone punch-drunk-in-love with the Lord can be. Most people have more realistic working relationships with the Lord, including many grueling trials and difficult choices, including long interesting treks to sometimes-better, sometimes-not-so-hot places. This sounds like lollipop-in-the-sky vague BS about how angels rescue us from our misery & everything goes magically right becuz the Lord is all-loving.

(Yes, He IS all-loving, but His love does not feel this blindly rapturous to many spiritual people).

Secondly, I hate how some pious writing dwells in generalities, especially using the same over-used imagery, which seems to substitute for actually having much to say of substance on this topic. Let's just wallow in nondescript joy. Let's sing nondescript praises becuz of all the nondescript miracles these ever-present angels are joyously evoking in nondescript ways.

I would (& I do) say the very same things about any trite love poem that feels like the narrator has been intoxicated by rapture, so his/her words are no longer of this gritty real-life earth anymore, but instead, living in some la-la land of feelin-no-pain.

Thank you for read requesting me to the extreme, so I could be overfilled with your over-the-top joy & then I could finally be honest with you (((HUGS)))
