Spoken

Spoken

A Poem by PoetryPenPal
"

You'll just have to read it to find out!

"

The words you spoke about me were heard,

Not by me, but by someone across the hall.

The words passed from ear to ear until they reached mine, and my heart stopped.

I swallowed the words, and tears welled up in my eyes, and pouring out the sides,

Rolling down my cheeks, and falling to the floor to scatter in millions of pieces.

The words went in one ear, out the other and back in, then sank to my gut

And sank to my gut and morphed to butterflies that poundedon my stomach and fluttered.

My mouth opened and closed and opened and closed but no words were spoken.

Finally I sank to my knees and let the river flow

Because the words had been heard not by me but by someone across the hall

Who passed it on from ear to ear until they reached mine

And made my heart stop and tears roll down my cheek

And fall to the floor to scatter into millions of pieces

The words went in one ear and out the other and back in.

They sank to my gut and changed to butterflies that fluttered and pounded on my stomach.

The words made my mouth open and close and open and close with no words

Until I sank to the floor and started crying.

These were the words

Spoken.

A wonderful read. Although I am much older than you, you bring back the days of youth when I cared about what other people thought about me. Thoughtful and expressive. You have a gift for words.

'The words went in one ear and out the other and back in.

The words made my mouth open and close and open and close with no words

Until I sank to the floor and started crying.

These were the words

Spoken.'

You are welcome...:).............
That is so unfortunate. People don't understand how gossip scars others. The gossip escapes and it's hard to make it go away. I always ask a gossiper (adult or child- I teach remember?) What was your purpose in telling me that? I find this to be highly effective at putting people on the spot and to think about their own behavior. Stay strong these days will pass and brighter things will come to you.

Thank you so much friend! ;-)
What a powerful write this is. People do not realize how the words they say nonchalantly can hurt others...can bring them to their knees and cause horrible pain. You have described the scene vividly and your imagery is wonderful. Well written. Lydi**

Gossip is so useless and hurtful.Words said jokingly and mockingly hurt so much.We should not let what people say about us bother us but it always will. This is the human condition. You penned this very well:)
