Rendezvous: A Short Story

A Story by Polly
"

Planning a date with him. Waiting for him at the spot. Realizing that he's not coming. How will Aria react?

"
"Today afternoon, near G's Bakery. It's a date," Evan said, his voice silky as usual. Giving me wink he turned to walk away, leaving me with me and my fast paced heart.
It's a date. A date with Evan Saunders- the hot guy in our school. I totally have to text Sarah.
Ding.
I searched for my phone in my purse and unlocked it, seeing I had got a text. "Ah, it's from Sarah!" Opening the notification, I read her text.
"Hey, Aria! U wanna go to G's this noon? 'Tis the weekend and I need help with math."
"Sorry, I have a date with Evan."
"U WAT???"
";)"
"Wen did this happen?"
"Just now, I was gonna text u about it."
"I'M SO HAPPY FOR UUUU BABBEE!! Come to my house rn okay? We've gotta get you ready."
Snickering, I dropped my phone in my purse and rushed to Sarah's home. Evan Saunders had been my crush since middle school and we had been talking for the past few days. Resulting to this date. Of course, Sarah would be happy for me, as a friend who had been there for me since we were kindergarteners.
Stopping by a cozy-looking house, I pressed the doorbell and in a few seconds, Sarah opened the door. At my sight, she pulled me into a hug. "My baby has worked hard to get this far. I'm proud of you, Aria."
"Now, now, you don't have to overreact." I was so giddy. I wish good times never ended. That time almost gave me a heart attack.
Sighing, I dug the memories of that day, remembering the one happy moment I had been in.
I was standing by G's Bakery, waiting for Evan to come. Checking my watch, I sighed. Five minutes past noon. "You're late," I murmured.
I watched people pass by, but Evan was nowhere to be seen. Ten minutes. "Very late." My voice shook.
A bunch of cars and a couple passed by. Warm tears filled my eyes. Fifteen minutes. I sniffed. My throat hurt. "Maybe you didn't want me after all."
All of a sudden, my phone rang and I shrieked. Some people looked at me weirdly. Shaking my head, I searched for my phone in my purse. It was a call from Evan. I stared at the screen. He hung up after a few moments.
I received a text. From Evan. Opening the text, I read, "Sorry, can't come. Some other time."
My breath hitched and drops of tears fell on my phone's screen. Worthless. I'm worthless. I should just-
"Aria?" That voice saved me.
"It's okay, Aria."
Turning around, I hugged Sarah. Sarah patted my back and I cried like a baby.
------

TWO MONTHS LATER
"A date?" I asked.
"Y-yeah, if you want," he said.
I smiled. "Don't make me wait. After school, at G's Bakery."

A nice teenage angst story. Someone once said that waiting for someone who never shows up is one of the worst kinds of hell-in-earth. Having experienced it, I tend to agree.

Thank you! And I totally agree too, making someone wait is the worst. :/
