Time To Be Real

Time To Be Real

A Poem by Dwain Dowdy
"

An inward look at a dying relationship

"

How do we measure love today?
Is it with comfort, convenience or fear?
We tend to act like its "Come What May"
For this life that we hold so dear.

We always complain about how bad it is.
Yet we go right back every day
But parts of it were good we remember clearly
that has to be why we stayed.

Still we can't be honest whenever we talk
Hell, we cant be honest with ourselves.
Is that because we are co-dependant
Or because we have no desire left.

Happiness and love starts in our own hearts
We really should know just how we feel.
We could take a stand and loudly demand
TODAY I'M GOING TO BE REAL

This might be one of the most honest expressions I've ever read about a dying relationship. I love that your observations are simply-stated & gut-level honest. The best two lines are at the top of stanza 3 . . . this is the crux of human strife, in my humble opinion. I did not even know myself until I was over 60. It's amazing to me that people live entire lives before we finally really understand what we are all about ourselves! This is nicely raw, unvarnished relationship stuff! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
