Rainclouds I Find

Rainclouds I Find

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

Tear up the day and let me try this again

"
There's a black sparrow diving into the static
and now I have a streak in my vision
I collect the stained glass mirrors of yesterday
just so I can see what I have let pass me by

Passing rainclouds as I find
nothing here is comforting or safe
Tear up the day and let me try this again

Ink feathered paper birds flutter on by
each carrying a different word of sorrow
Let me rest and I'll give you the weight within me
I don't need the future to blacken my days

Passing rainclouds as I find
sunlight should be saved for Winter
Tear up the day and let me try this again

Disintegration of a tormented mind
that bears the same venom as before
Sullen honey, unspoken secrets
Bury me with what pieces of my heart remain

This is a stunning write, with so many layers to unpack. I read it a couple of times and each time got something different from it. I love the lines "I collect the stained glass mirrors of yesterday just so I can see what I have let pass me by". I think hindisght is a wonderful gift, if only it arrived a bit sooner than it does ! If only we could "tear up the day" too ! A thoughtful, reflective poem that i really liked. Penny
