Medusoid Mycelium

Medusoid Mycelium

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

Someone colour in the blank scene

"
My teddy bear is crying
I haven't hugged him in years
It's just that I've been busy
wearing the face of an adult
Why can't I let it slip?
I give up

I wish I was a King
I'd make sure everyone was happy
There'd be no crying, no pain
No wars or even rain
I'd probably screw it up
I don't know

Someone colour in the blank scene
It's a faded grey where I am standing
I need something to look forward to
even if it leaves me looking back

I cannot help but reflect on the sullen days of fall... when everything turns into burnt colors of sunshine and the cool air brings a melancholic nostalgia...things seem to fade as the winter comes... such as our childhood.

You mention grey being the faded colour of life gone by...I felt the sadness and disappointment...

Nicely penned, Elliott... an emotive piece, indeed.~xoxo~

An amazing poem and very relatable. Pretty much everyone longs for that freedom of childhood. This is one of my favorites. And I can't help but to think of the eleventh book of the series of unfortunate events when I seen the title of this poem

I love the opening stanza, particularly
"It's just that I've been busy
wearing the face of an adult"
Nice contrast of images from childhood when life seemed so much safer and simpler.

I just graduated high school and I already hate it all. Maybe you should become a king

First of all this line is breathtaking...
I really really love this poem because it takes me places. I love the reference to your childhood through the teddy bear I think that was genius. The first two stanzas managed to play off of each other in a way that I feel expressed indecision and anxiety which really embodied the message here. I also feel like there was no real resolution because of the power exchange in the last two stanzas. You go from wanting to fix everything yourself as a king, to handing all of the worlds problems to someone else when you ask them to color in the the scene. I love to read into poems and the way they are constructed and you have put this piece together in a beautiful way. Great write!

Loved this line - wow.

I'm interpreting in a different way than intended I imagine but being married with kids, this is where my colours were filled in.

Helluva lot of soul searching and falling down to reach that point though, which is maybe a good thing.
You don't take it for granted.

Thought provoking write, well done. Creepy pic though. :)
But effective.
