Shoebox

Shoebox

A Poem by Punkgyrl3

In the back of my closet,

Buried very deep…

Is a shoebox full of memories,

I couldn’t help but keep

Ticket stubs from movies.

Every one we saw.

Titanic kept us coming back,

I count five times in all

A coaster from a restaurant,

From Valentines, I think?

A couple conversation hearts

You wrote over in ink.

There are walkie-talkies.

Well just one from the pair

For when you got to spend the night

But my parents were still there.

Mixed tapes that you made me

For when we were apart

Gas receipts and toll cards

From road trips in your car

Pictures from the parties

And all the dances too

My white corsage from prom night

When love was pure and true.

Love letters and poems,

Passed in-between class.

Full of teenage longing;

Just whispers from the past.

I know that you kept boxes too

Filled before we met

I found them once; it broke my heart

A pain I won’t forget

I wonder if there’s one for me

With so much time that’s past

My closet only holds just one

My first love, and my last.
