The Duality Of Evil

A horrid revelation.

She is us and we are her

And it is in her

We see

The evil within ourselves

 

We know not

To extend our hands

To our fellow kinsman

Or to recoil in disgust

At her

At each-other

At ourselves

 

Do we forgive her?

For what she does,

We do

 

Do we condemn her?

For what she does,

We want to continue to do

 

Do we condemn her?

Condemn each-other?

Condemn ourselves?

And see to it we change

As not to reflect

The evil that is in her

Though ourselves

…

When the realization struck

I was filled with such disquiet

The waters of my soul

Ceased to stir

And all was kept still

Cold

And bitter

 

And most of all, I felt so very deeply ashamed of the person I had become.
