The Ones

The Ones

A Poem by Rachael Lea

It’s the ones you’d never think

The ones with the brightest smiles

These are the ones on the brink

The ones who will go the extra mile

The ones who sing and laugh and play

The ones who carry on without a care

The ones who bring light to your day

Are the ones who need you to be there

They are the ones who are hurt the most

And instead of dwelling they find the joy

Though well liked they feel like a ghost

And the painful words spoken are a ploy

It’s the ones who show they are strong

The ones who battle to get up in the morn

The ones who couldn’t be anymore wrong

When evaluating their reasons to be forlorn

The ones who are there whenever you need

The ones who go out of their way for you

These are the ones who you wouldn’t know bleed

These ones don’t see them the way you do

It’s these ones we need to reach out to

These ones who need us more then we them

These ones are the ones who truly feel blue

These ones don’t see they are our gem

These ones are the light out dark grey skies

These ones are our strength when we need

We will never hear their mournful cries

It’s our light in which these ones do feed

The ones who strive to get up each day

The ones who won’t bog you down

The ones who need for you them to pray

The ones who hide the biggest frown

The ones

Often, 'the ones' see their imperfections magnified because a few saw them at all, not knowing that fewer that [could] matter see those same things as hidden jewels that make 'the ones' who they are and sparkle because of their uniqueness.
Lines of sheer brilliance here with a takes-one-to-know-one feel. Love it.
Thanks for the share.

Any breath you can put in this would serve it well. As an example, a space between the second and third line, and between the third and fourth. The third line should stand alone, in my opinion. The beautiful thing about poetry is that there are no rules. Keep that in mind when deciding how to present your poem. The way it appears on the page to the reader is a substantial part of the game.

I guess to simply say, "Be aware of those around you and not take any one for granted."
