The Party

The Party

A Poem by Journey

The cold glass tips to her warm
pink lips.
Liquid relaxation and courage
flow into her mouth.
The tip of her tongue tastes it, and she finds it to her liking as
it trickles down her throat,
Bringing a faint pink blush
to her cheeks.
Strobe lights pulse and burn red on the inside of her closed eyelids
A different set of hands grasp hers and her eyes open.
Lips warm and coated with the same cold liquid
connect, moving together.
She frees herself, slowly waving her hands in front of her face.
Sitting up she whispers to the owner of the other pair of hands,
“You’ll take care of me, right?”
He promises he always will.
*
More relaxation, more calming, more nothing.
What is no? She doesn’t know.
*
Leading her away, pulling her hand,
Up, up, up they go, where they stop nobody knows.
“Are you taking care of me?”
Yes, yes, yes I am.
*
Looking around, her eyes less clouded.
Oh no. No no, no no, no.
Her hands wrap around herself,
hiding her naked body.
What is happening?
She looks at him, the owner of the hands from before.
He, seeing her face, begins to understand what is happening.
“Honey…”
He calls to her, reaching out to take her shaking hand.
She runs to the closet, hiding.
Back and forth, back and forth, rocking.
No no, no no, no no, no.
She crawls out, finding her clothes, covering herself.
She’s spiralling down.
Down, down, down.
*
Scissors catch her eye.
Grasping for the sharpness to release her pain,
beading blood is now dripping slowly down her.
He sees and dives to take the scissors away.
She is persistent.
Wrestling over the sharp blades, each lost in
confusion.
He is stronger and takes the scissors,
Now seeking to release
his own pain.
She takes his release, as he did from her.
More blood.
*
Where is the beginning?

Everything is not the same
