Believe HerA Poem by Rachel MurrayThis poem was written to express how when someone shows signs of suicide or depression it should be taken seriously before it's too late. Not everyone is seeking attention, watch for the signs.
There was once a girl who fed her fears
And let that take away her years Her problems became daggers As darkness consumed her mind The pain was way too much to bear She was looking, hoping someone cared She wanted to reach out You have no idea, how much she tried People wanted to believe her But thought she was an attention seeker Even with the scars on her arms They said she was just stressed Yet her voice became much meeker And her stomach was a whole lot weaker She was becoming thinner Still they wouldn’t admit, she was depressed Soon her grades began to drop And for her, the world just seemed to stop Her parents had no idea No one saw, she was falling apart People said she’d be just fine “Teenagers did this all the time” They said it was all normal They quickly ruled it off as a broken heart Even with all the tears she shed People believed the fake smiles instead She didn’t know what to do They laughed it off, they didn’t see Attempts were made to end her life Still no one took away her knife They said she wanted drama So everyone let it be They wanted to believe the truth But said they needed some kind of proof Finally, she realized this… She knew she could prove them wrong So here we come to that final day Where she made their doubts all go away They found a note beside her… No one believed her, till she was gone © 2016 Rachel Murray |
