The Fall

The Fall

A Poem by Rachel Murray
"

I am not a person with suicidal thoughts; but I know people who have had them in the past. I write this for those silent victims, always fighting battles with their thoughts. You are not alone.

"
Eyes blurred
With tears of their own
Hands shakin’
But she won’t go home

Knees quiverin’
She’s frozen in place
She thinks
How her life’s a waste

She looks down
At her feet stood still
Inches away from the cliff
On the hill

She thinks she’ll jump
She’ll end it all
Take her life
Take the fall

She wishes
She blinks
She wipes her tears
But not her grief

Her heart cries
Her spirit sinks
She can’t move
But she wants to leave

Either way
She can’t go home
No one waits
She stands alone

She knows
She must go
Down far
Far below

Eyes blurred
Hands shake
Fear stirred
Legs ache

Stomach turns
Knees quake
She moves swiftly
To the edge of the lake

She steps
She stops
But it’s too late

She’s gone now
But she leaves
A story behind
A story so sad
A story that
Could someday
Be mine
