To the Poets

To the Poets

A Poem by Rain
"

I've been thinking of the endless of poets and writers, our brothers and sisters, whose burden bonds us.

"

here's to all the poets
who sat with just a pen
and labored into the night
to find the poems end

minds with words that drift
looking for a place to fit
that perfect little word
that seals the feel of it

broken hearted human beings
who struggle to express the pain
of how deep the hurt of loss is
that even words are penned in vain

to the writers whose lives are lost
whose only friends float deep within
simple words of gray and black
color their lives from start to end

here's to the countless writers
in search of that immortal line
that screams to all who read
i was someone..somewhere..sometime

" Poetry is not the proper antithesis to prose, but to science. Poetry is opposed to science, and prose to metre'. The proper and immediate object of science is the aquirement, or communication, of truth;
the proper and immediate object of poetry is the communication of immediate pleasure."
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

I have to agee with Sam on that one.
As a poet; I seek beyond all else to to bring my reader ecstasy.
I know then that my reader will be a faithful lover, leave satisfied, and return often.
Just mine and Sam's thoughts.

I love it! This piece makes me feel good about being a writer. The description of writers is so true. I was so moved by the last line. Right now, I feel that I am so lucky because I cross the path with this poem.

I love this because it's so.. true. I suppose it's the last line that touches me the most. Young as I am, I don't see myself to grow to an old age. Superstition you might say. I want to write something, or draw something, or play something, anything, that will change a life, change lives, before I'm gone. So I struggle every day in a vain attempt at achieving this. I want to leave my mark on the world before I'm gone, something that says "i was someone..somewhere..sometime"

The greatest thing about being a writer is having our voice heard so we must make sure to say what we want while we have the chance... Nicely penned.

I had the pleasure of reading this before the site crash, I would never forget such an awesome poem. A nice, honest tribute to all your writer friends. Well composed and the last stanza really hits hard and truthfully.
