Time Please!

Just an attempt to come to terms with the passage of time...

 

Time has a healing touch

Eases away pain

With its embalming caress

While it passes by

Fades away trauma

Buffers shock and wounds

 

Time creates memories

Evokes nostalgia

Lends vintage charm

Nurtures and matures

Comes to a standstill in moments of epiphany

 

Time flies imperceptibly

Does not seem enough

Slips out of our fingers

Can’t be clasped

Nor held at bay

 

Yet time hangs heavily

When there isn’t much to do

It is a nightmare in sleepless anxiety

When listlessness torments

It creeps like a snail

 

 Time creates chasms

Between generations

In relationships

Between hearts

Changing lifestyles and tastes

 

Time evolves beauty

Greater depths of understanding

Or etches cruel lines and wrinkles

Marring the radiance of youth

It withers and makes frail

 

Ruins bear witness

To the ravages of time

Mere shadows of the past

Evoking forgotten tales and melodies

Resonance of long lost echoes

Buried in the elapsed years

 

 

‘In time’ is effective

‘On time’ is optimum

‘Within’ time is efficient

‘Out of time’ is irrelevant

‘With time’ is adapting

Keeping pace with change

 

 

Time taken is spent

Time lived is cherished

Time lost is regretted

Time saved is gained

Time given returns

Time out game is over!

  

Time can make or mar

Let’s move ahead with time

Or beyond its constraints

You really have done "Time" justice here in your beautifully worded poem. You really showcase your talent here with every carefully chosen and placed word. I really enjoy the various ways you play with time wording in your third and second to last stanzas. A powerful ending as well. Every line from start to finish is extraordinary! This is going right to my favorites--right on time!

So true, sadly so many people tend to spend time on regretting on time lost. Such a waste.
