Old and forgotten

Old and forgotten

A Poem by PossiblyAlice
"

I dug this up and thought it had merit

"

Old and forgotten

The tree is a stump

It isn’t a grand old willow

It doesn’t reach into the stars

With great swaying leaves catching comets

Not a fortress of imagination

Like the battle ground of many

Nor the shade for a beast

There are no birds with songs

No insects with wings

There is no life

Just the dry, bare, grey stump

Rotting into oblivion

People are not going to picnic

Beneath its shade

No laughs will echo through the branches

No more stories etched into rings

Only time will see

As its slowly fades away.

It's weird how someone can take something as simple as a tree stump and make such a lovely poem full of a metaphor for life. Like just today, I was driving in the rain, and realized that I need to get new windshield whipers becuase they were not clearing away the rain properly. But because of the rain and old windshield whippers, the road looked kind of blury and it was hard to see at times, and I thought, "This has got to be some fucked up metaphor for my life right now." Thanks for sharing this awesome poem. I hope to read more in the near future X3

i see a person here who has nothing left to give. life is honed down to a stump...the beauty is gone...the shelter this person once gave others is no longer there.

the person is broken...the person being a stump...barely a recognition that the person even existed.//
stripped of dignity, stripped of a reason for living...and the memory of this person will now slowly fade away.

Amazing! I love it sooo so much! without living there is no more growth, and no more story to tell..
I usually leave longer reviews, but I have nothing more to say. Great job, beautiful poem!

Thank you. sometimes the shorter reviews mean the most. Short and sweet.

Reach for the stars; you've actually done it with this piece.

This poem can be reflected in so many different lights.. I can see something that was so important and stood so beautiful just vanish away, forgotten without the slightest trace of its memory. Telling myself now would I remember such a thing I feel so strongly about.. Maybe for now for a month, a year, ten years.. but then It's going to happen I will slowly forget.. and that's what this poem reads for me.. that process of forgetting something you want to remember, something important.
