Pearl Ibis

Pearl Ibis

A Poem by Ranger Kessel

pearl ibis

cloistered wings

withdrawn

in elegant embrace

pearl ibis

in my heart

chiffon

refined in lace

pearl ibis

stately

in the dawn

elemental grace

pearl ibis

bristle whiskers

painted in wavy sun

softly singing swan

First of all, this has brilliant use of alliteration, pearl ibis seems perfect to be repeated like this. Next, you have a very clever and skillful rhyme scheme going on here; with the final two lines in each stanza. The image this crafts in the mind is superb. While rhyming can at time seem 'gimmicky', this is nevertheless an excellent example of it!

I love the forlorn yet hopeful tone. Saving it in my heart til the lace decays and all that's left is swan song.♡

Ranger, this is a uniquely beautiful and sensitive write. You captured the delicacy of a bird's wings to perfection by pairing it with chiffon and lace, and evolving the ibis into the beautiful swan at the end. Absolutely treasured this one. Thank you for sharing it with us. I'm saving it into my library, so I can reflect on this again later. Bless you.

thanks for the kind words
they are beautiful birds...i saw something so cool in Trinidad once...at exactly 6:04 pm each day...

a flock of scarlet ibis would fly through this river and end up on this giant tree...we took a long boat ride to find the spot...had a guide...i was so awed by the beauty of it all...so many of them...so red, so graceful.
