A Book

A Book

A Poem by Ranger Kessel

i want to write a book. not that it would be my first, but i am sure i have another inside my head. maybe a chapbook. something small, cheap, and ephemeral. i don't want something that sits around in a library untouched for fifty years. i want something that lives for a brief time. something someone feels is valuable and is exchanged among friends until it is worn out and unreadable. maybe they try to save it in a book and share it with their loved ones for a laugh or smile or heartfelt moment together. something someone talks about and maybe adds their own take on it after it is retired to the waste can. i want the ink to be smeared black and fingerprinted before it ends up thrown away. nothing fancy. and it will have my name. something that when it fizzles out or lost that can't be replaced physically, and only lives on in the reader's mind.

Something heartfelt, something someone might relate to, even one person...then it is worth writing
because in some way it helped the reader...It might live for a brief time, but the people it meets will remain affected for a very long time.
