Chapter FOUR: Purrrfect First Date

Chapter FOUR: Purrrfect First Date

A Chapter by Rebecca J Martin
"

A chapter about the two main characters on their 'first date'

"

Jeanine waited outside while William put their fur loves in the safety of his home.

“Trisha will keep an eye on them,”  William reassured her as he locked the front door

“And I’ll introduce the two of you when we come back.  I have a feeling you and Trish will get along great.”

It took them all of 5 minutes to walk to Mc Donald’s.  Jeanine was glad for that because she was starting to feel the hunger pains kick in.  She was impressed at how quickly they were seated.  Not even a moment went by before the host led them to their table.

“Order anything on the menu, money is no object this evening.”  William said, “I only ask that you try their strawberry cheesecake for dessert.”

The two sat in silence for a few moments studying their menus.

“Oh, my!”  Jeanine exclaimed, “Everything looks SO good.  I am completely discombobulated.”

“I’ll tell you what Jeanine if you are undecided I would be honored to choose for you.”

Jeanine thought about it for a moment.

“It’s not like I haven’t frequented Mc Ds most my life.”  William continued, “If it’s any consolation, I did study culinary as my minor in college. If there’s anything I know, it’s taste. I’m also gifted in picking up on other individual’s diet preference.”

“Ok, William.  You certainly do sell a hard game! I’ll take my chances.”

William knew what he planned on ordering before they arrived.  He looked toward the waitress as he began to fold their menus.  They were led to their table by the host sooner than it took for the waitress to visit their table, much less acknowledges they were there.  On any normal given day at any normal restaurant, they would have at least been asked what they wanted to order for drinks, and possibly an appetizer.

After what felt like forever, William and Jeanine’s waitress finally appeared.

“Welcome to McDonald’s, I hope your visit so far has been satisfactory.”  Came the sound of the woman’s deep manly voice “I’m assuming since you’re menus are closed, you are both ready to order?”

“Yes, ma’am.”  William replied

The waitress almost gracefully pulled the pen from behind her ear as she prepared to jot down their order.

“What may I order for you?”  The waitress loudly smacked on her gum

“I think we will start out with 2 glasses of merlot red wine.”  William answered

After he was finished placing their order, they both relaxed into a conversation.

“Our dogs certainly get along great.” William announced, “I was amazed to see how quickly they connected.”

“Maybe it’s because Winchester isn’t fixed yet.”  Jeanine nodded her head in agreement

“Hmm…”  William thought about it for a moment

“You know,” He continued, “you may have a point there.  Treble is a bit on the elderly side, but he has never been spayed.  Could someone be in heat?”

Jeanine tried not to laugh.

“Now that is a possibility.”  Jeanine replied with a forced straight face, “Winchester is only a year old.  I’m not sure when her first heat was… but it would make sense if it happened at 6 months old.”

“I think Winchester and Treble would have some beautiful puppies.”  William said

“You know, they would!”

“Furthermore, I don’t think we’d have trouble finding Sims to adopt them.”

“Oh, my!”  Jeanine laughed “We’ve JUST met, and already you’re talking babies?”

William and Jeanine busted up laughing.  In fact, they were so loud about it, they were attracting attention from customers nearby.

“How’s everything going?”  The waitress interrupted

“Everything is great, thank you.”  William replied

“Yes, everything is wonderful.”  Jeanine chimed in

“That’s good to hear,” the waitress responded, “Your order should arrive shortly.”

Jeanine exhaled a sigh of relief.  She was worried that William might hear the growl-fest her tummy was putting on.

Call it coincidental, or wishful thinking… no sooner did the waitress walk away did Jeanine catch a rather large whiff of something barbequed.

“Oh wow!”  Jeanine exclaimed, “That smells amazing!”

“You haven’t smelled the best of it yet.”  William chuckled

“I used to go to McDonald’s quite a bit when I was in college.”  Jeanine announced, “It was absolutely nothing like this McD’s.  I thought all Mc Donald’s were fast-foods.”

“Well,” William said, “A couple of years after John Smith bought and built the Mc Donald’s franchise, he wanted to add his own magical touch.  At that time, there was only fast food hole in the ground restaurants here. He felt making his McD’s fancy and all would help his business pick up.  He isn’t just about making money though, he’s about helping our small town grow and thrive. All of this was mostly to help in creating more jobs for the locals.”

“Now that is an amazing story.”  Jeanine admitted, “I would love to meet this John Sim.  Sounds like a truly caring individual.”

The waitress’ timing couldn’t have been better.   Just as Jeanine was finished talking, William heard the loud rumble echoing across the table.  Jeanine tried to conceal the sound with a fake cough.  To her, a stomach growl was just as embarrassing as a fart or burp.

“Your meal awaits to be devoured.”  The waitress smiled as she placed their plates in front of them.  Each dish was full of garlic seasoned fries and a burger smothered with avocado, mushroom, and grilled onions.  The aroma alone made Jeanine wish she could afford to hire the cook on a personal daily basis.

“I hope you enjoy your entrée,” The waitress beamed at Jeanine, “as much as I know William will.”

With that, the waitress walked back to her station while both Jeanine and William dug into their main course.  Not much was being said between the two of them as they each attacked their burgers.

Jeanine had never tasted a burger as worthy as this one.  It was literally the juiciest, chin-dripping, gut-busting burger she’d ever had.

Upon finishing his last bite, William raised his arm to signal the waitress.  Until this point, Jeanine imagined William was possibly one of the most patient Sim she knew.  She was amused by this action he made in order to get started on the second portion of their order.

“Wow,” Jeanine thought, “The waitress must be a close friend of his!”

She watched as the waitress almost immediately dismissed her most recent customers in order to tend to William’s signal.

“Are you ready for your desert Mr. Hartman?”  The waitress threw a wink William’s way

William nodded in response.  Soon after, she was delivering two of the richest cheesecakes ever. As soon as their waitress turned to walk away, another waitress headed toward their table.  She came up to their waitress whispering something to her.  They both left abruptly.

The cheesecakes were better in size compared to any cheesecake Jeanine remembered ordering in the past.  For a moment the thought of calories entered her mind.  Almost as quickly as the thought arrived, it was wiped clean by the delicious luscious creaminess introduced to her palette.

“You haven’t touched your wine.”  William noted

“Oh,” Jeanine replied, “I was actually saving it to have with this amazing dessert.”

With that, she picked up the glass and took a small sip.

“Mmm…” hailed Jeanine’s sound of approval, “I’ve never tasted such an exclusive flavor of wine with its mysterious hint of nectar-like sweetness.  This whole meal has been marvelous beyond surprise!”

William chuckled again as he watched Jeanine fold her hands as in if she were praying.

Noticing William’s look of confusion, Jeanine explained that she was only human and normally she would pray before eating a meal.  She couldn’t understand how the smell of any meal could give her temporary amnesia.

After her explanation, William closed his hands and bowed his own head.  Jeanine was impressed that not only was this man full of all kinds of knowledge, but he was a believer on top of it.  She listened thoughtfully as he prayed his thankfulness out loud.

“Amen.”  Jeanine said as he completed his prayer.

It was obvious that William was impressed as well while he held his wine glass above his head and spoke.

“Here’s to meeting such a delightful Sim with true conviction in what she believes.”

Jeanine raised her glass in response before taking a large gulp of the velvet like wine.

“So, Jeanine.”  William questioned, carefully setting his glass against the table, “What brought you to our quaint little cozy town of Talabu Bay?”

“Honestly,” Jeanine started, “I would have moved here just for the scenery and weather alone but as truth will have it, I was offered my first career by Dr. Trendleton soon after earning my diploma as a Veterinarian Assistant at Spring Valley Junior College.”

“I see.”  William replied, taking a bite of his desert, “I know of Spring Valley.  My family and I traveled there several times to have Christmas at my cousin Felicia’s.”

“Small world, isn’t it?”  Jeanine smiled raising her glass one more time

“You’ll love working with Dr. Trendleton.”  William continued, “I’ve never worked with her, but if she is the same sweet lady at work as she is in person, then she’ll be one awesome boss.”

He went on to explain how she was his mom’s best friend from college, and that she was like an aunt to him.

They took a break from their conversation long enough to have a few sips of wine followed by a bite or two of cheesecake.  They had no problem showing their obvious approval for such a perfect sweet through the sounds that escaped vocally.

William finished his desert sometime before Jeanine.  Whether it be from the ‘war of sexes’ or mere difference in personalities, Jeanine savored the taste with her elegant like bites compared to Williams monster consumption behavior.

Not long after their plates were emptied did their waitress appear accompanied by the other waitress.

“Sir, Ma’am,” the other waitress questioned as she handed the meal ticket to William, “was everything to your approval tonight?”

Their waitress began to clear the remainder of dishes at their table.

“As usual and most definitely.”  William responded while Jeanine nodded with a “Mmhmm.” in agreement

“That’s beautiful.”  The other waitress replied with a smile followed by a blank stare at their waitress.

“Wow,” Jeanine seemed confused, “What was that all about?”

William laughed, “That would be about Miss Elemeak using her best management skills to make sure her trainees are waiting properly.”

He went on to remind her how their Waitress had been so quick to come to their aid for dessert whilst in the middle of taking her new customer’s food order.
“I’m almost sure the customers complained about her.”  He said as he scooted his chair back.

“Are you ready?” He continued “Or would you like another glass of wine?”

Jeanine reassured him she was plenty satisfied and ready to head out.  After taking care of the bill, the two lovely Sims headed out the door.

The night was still young as far as two young Sims were concerned.  When they walked outside, Jeanine noticed how busy it had become.

“Where did all these cars come from?”  She asked, “When we first arrived, I could have sworn there was only a few parked here.”

William explained how the bar, The Jade Eclipse, next door had horrible parking, causing their patrons to over-spill into this parking lot as well as on the sides of the street when the club began to fill up.

“So how did you really enjoy McDonald’s?”  William questioned

“Oh, I’d have to say I have no words to describe how overwhelmingly awesome everything was.”  Jeanine smiled in return

They stood near the parking lot for a moment in silence.  William couldn’t help but stare her way.  He hoped she didn’t see his watchful eye.  He would certainly feel nervous had she of.

“I have an idea.”  William started as he peered toward the now clear sky, “I have a pool in my backyard.  Would you like to hang out a bit longer?”

As thrilled as Jeanine was at the thought, she had to politely decline due to the fact she didn’t have a swimsuit.

“Oh, that’s not a problem.” He reassured her, “Trish has a few extra unworn suits for her girlfriends to use for such an occasion as forgetting their suits.”

Jeanine was relieved, for she really did want to spend more time with her first and new friend here in Talabu Bay.  She felt a growing attraction toward William. She accepted his invitation faster than she had first declined it.

As soon as she accepted his proposal, they began their slow stroll toward William’s home.

Jeanine walked as close to him as she possibly could get away with, without letting on to him that she enjoyed his wonderful musky cologne.

William on the other hand, walked as close to her as he possibly could get away with, without alerting her of the fact that he enjoyed the sound of her soft voice and laughter as they spoke about this and that.

Even though it was only a 5-minute walk back to his place from Mc D’s, they both purposely took their time walking at a much slower pace.

Jeanine followed behind William as he opened the front door.  Past him, she saw a beautiful young lady with the most gorgeous fiery red hair.

“Jeanine,” William began the introductions, “This is my roommate and best friend, Trisha.  Trisha, this beautiful lady is Jeanine.  We just met today at the dog park.”

Trisha looked pleased… very pleased.

“And of course you already met Winchester, Jeanine’s best friend.” He chuckled as he continued “Now, I need to ask you a favor”

William walked into the next room with Trisha, coming back with the most adorable zebra print bikini.

“Oh, my!”  Jeanine seemed excited, “wow that is going to look really pretty on you William!”

Jeanine began to laugh uncontrollably, William followed in her laughter.  They were quite the comical pair at that moment.  William was pleased that Jeanine had such an out of the ordinary sense of humor.

After changing clothes, William walked Jeanine out to the backyard to meet up with Winchester.

“As you can see,” William pointed toward their pups, “Winchester and Treble make the most adorable companions as we said earlier.”

There they were, the two of them laying not far from the pool all cuddled up together.  Anyone could see the both of them just awoke, as their eyes had that sleep’ish look to them.

Jeanine watched Trisha walk her way as a much smaller brown dog appeared out of nowhere sniffing at her feet.  It caught her off-guard causing her to jump.

“Oh goodness!” Jeanine exclaimed as she lay her hand against her chest in surprise

“Aww,” Trisha picked her pup up, “This little gal is Maxi.” She said in a high pitched puppy dog speaking voice, “She’s my other best friend.”

Jeanine watched as Trisha cuddled her Maxi close to her bosom, proceeding to give her tiny little itty bitty puppy dog kisses on her cute little face.

No one seemed ready to jump in the pool just yet.  They were much more into conversation than swimming.  Jeanine learned more about Trisha.  Upon finding out she was a beautician/nail and makeup artist she made a promise to make an appointment to spoil herself soon.

After about 20 minutes of talk, Trisha jumped in for a quick swim and was back out heading upstairs for a shower.  She had informed them she had plans in an hour to meet her girlfriends at the Jade Eclipse for drinks and a few games of darts.

As soon as Trisha left the scene, Jeanine jumped up and moved closer to where William was sitting on the edge of the pool.  She really loved how good the water felt on her legs.

“You know,” Jeanine said as she slowly moved her legs up and down in the water, “I was actually planning on checking the Jade Eclipse out tonight.”

“Oh, really?”  William replied, “Did you have someone to meet there and party with?”

Jeanine could tell he was really curious about whether she had a date planned for later.

“Oh goodness no.” She laughed

William looked relieved.

“Actually,” She admitted, “you are the first real Sim I’ve met that I’ve enjoyed hanging out with since my move here.”

Williams’s cheeks blushed an obvious shade of pink.

“In fact,” She continued, “I’m enjoying your company enough to do… THIS!”

With that Jeanine jumped up and straight into the water with her best attempt at a cannonball, resulting in a pool water soaked William.

“Holy COW!” William gasped as he then jumped up returning her cannonball with a deep dive into the pool.  When he made it to her, he grabbed her around her tiny waist picking her up above his shoulders, then throwing her back into the water.

All three pups at this point, upon being caught off-guard with huge splashes of water landing on each one, began barking excitedly.  It wasn’t long before each one of them showed their obvious love for swimming as they simultaneously jumped in.

William and Jeanine returned to the edge of the pool as they watched the dogs do their best doggie paddles from one end to the other, and back again.

“Wow!” William laughed, “This has certainly proved to be one of the most exciting evenings since I returned to Talabu Bay!”

Jeanine felt honored that she was able to contribute to someone such as him in a positive fun manner.

“Well William,” Jeanine said as she grabbed a towel to wrap up in, “It certainly has proven to be an amazing day.  Sadly though, all amazing days must come to an end.”

William actually looked a little sad.

“It is really getting late,” She continued as she looked toward the sunset off in the distance, “I should head back home soon.  I have a bit of preparing to do for my first day of work on Monday.”

“How far do you have to travel home?”  William inquired, with concern in his voice

“You know at this location, I’m not quite sure.  I know it was 3 miles from my house to Wesley Park,” She replied, “but I am a big girl.”

Jeanine grinned at William as she put the leash on Winchester.

“Yeah,” William grinned right back at Jeanine, “I get the big girl thing and all, but I have to say I was raised a gentleman, and a gentleman I shall be.”

With that, he put Treble’s leash on.

Jeanine shrugged her shoulders, “Well if you’re up for an approximate total 6-mile walk at 8 o’clock, then be my guest.”

They both laughed as they said their goodbyes to Trisha.  Jeanine could have sworn she threw a wink their way as they headed across the street.

Jeanine was thankful for the time change.  Normally by 8, it was nearly dark out.  She knew they had at least another hour before the moon became fully visible.

“So William,” Jeanine asked, “I never asked what you do for a living.  What are you?  A rocket scientist?”

William was getting rather fond of the jokester side of her personality.

“I could only wish,” He laughed, “no I’m definitely not one.”

As they continued walking, William told Jeanine about his dream of becoming a full-blown architect.  He went into detail about how much he put into his studies with college.

“What I really enjoy doing though,” He continued, “Is culinary art.  As I mentioned earlier, I love horticulture as well.”

Jeanine was even more impressed.

“That being said,” He continued, “my family owns a bakery which has been in the family for several generations.  Since my immediate plans fell through, I will now be the proud manager starting Monday.”

“Wow!” Jeanine showed her excitement and growing interest in him, “That is really awesome!  What’s even more awesome is I have a small garden I started when I first moved here.  The plants I planted were pretty much mature, therefore baring fruit.”

William as well felt an increasing need to know more about Jeanine.

“Unbelievable how small of a world it really is.”  He added

“Oh, yes!” Jeanine continued, “Another small world thing is this.  As soon as I find another home to rent, I plan on doing a lot of baking and cooking with mostly my own produce.”

Of course, at that point, she had to explain WHY she was searching so soon for another place.  An oven and stove to both of them was most definitely a huge necessity.

“Well William,” Jeanine stopped in her tracks, “This is it.”

“What is it?” William looked confused

“THIS is it,” Jeanine laughed loudly as she pointed to her home

“OOOOH!!!!” William broke out in laughter, “Wow, I am going to say my blondness (or lack of) just showed its roots!”

“Here,” Jeanine held her hand out, “Let me see your cell phone.”

“Oh,” William laughed, “I see how it is, I show you the time of your life and now you want to rob me blind?”

William handed his phone to Jeanine, all the while trying to hold in his laughter, as he knew at this point if he let go of it, he would never stop laughing.

Jeanine added her name and number to William’s contacts.

“Now if you feel the need to go out and do something fun,” Jeanine said as she handed his phone back to him, “you have the option of inviting me if your little heart so desires.”

With that, she stepped closer to him, arms opened.  William moved in closer in order to accept her warm friendly hug.  And with that, he led Treble down the sidewalk on their way home.

Poor Treble almost looked disappointed as he eagerly watched his new best friend and William slowly disappear into the sunset.

“Come on Winchester,” Jeanine said after she whistled, beckoning him to follow her inside.

Winchester obviously had other plans, as she made like a statue on the sidewalk, refusing to budge.  Jeanine tried everything to coax her inside.  Coincidently after William and Treble were no longer in view, Winchester gave in as they both headed indoors for the night.

Meanwhile, William had made it almost halfway back home when Treble stopped dead in his tracks.

“Oh no,” William groaned, “not again!”

He was almost sure Treble was going to pull his many ‘pee stops’ on him, but strangely he didn’t.  Treble sat there for a moment and almost too obviously turned his head as if he were looking for someone.

“Well, I’ll be,” William continued, “If I weren’t sane, I would think you took a shining to that sweet pup Winchester!”

William stood there for a moment reflecting on the day.  He had one realization at that moment.  Had he not decided to go to that park on this day, he very well may have never met this sweet, funny and charming young lady.  He felt he would sleep well tonight as he would look forward to the new day following, along with the many possibilities to follow.
