A New Start

A New Start

A Poem by Skyla

A new PS3, shiny and clean.
Maybe a phone call, five or so minutes;
Or the hot, athletic body in your dreams.

Resolutions are weak, flimsy and bare,
Getting a car, or cleaning the kitchen.
Paint the house, breathe fresh air.

How about, instead of improvements,
Make someone smile,
Cause a positive movement.

Give your mother a flower,
Catch a fish or two with your father.
Stay and talk to your sister, for an extra hour.

Throw your dog a bone,
When he gives you those sad eyes.
He'll love you more than you've ever known.

Water the wilting garden,
Sitting all on it's own.
Sleep there all day, beg your pardon.

In the end, when the light fades,
When the door is shut,
And there's no aid.

Your dog will be there,
Right by your side.
All of your life, they've shared.

Your diet will be gone,
The car will be dented.
Old fresh paint will be worn.

When the skies turn gray,
We will all be there,
At the end of the day.
