Soma

Soma

A Poem by RedThroat

A prison, a vessel, a thing to transcend

A temple, a carriage for which to build strength

A thing that hurts and aches after time

A wondrous machine that has no price in dime

A machine maybe but for parts no replace

And worst of all most are stuck with their face

Yet everyone has something unique

A beautiful feature in their own physique

Overshadowed by flaws and worries galore

And if you look closer you'll find ever more

But the incredible things it allows you to do

From walking to swimming and smelling things too

Most animals can do those better than that

What humans do well is only get fat

The option to change is always at hand

But the sad truth is most people can't

Biology's grip only loosens that much

And what's most important lies deep in its clutch

Like color and sex and illness and height

Changing these things is not in your might

All the more reason to enjoy what's possessed

And not take for granted the heart in you chest

To never lose sight of what you like best

And not sink in despair when you think of the rest

Whatever your views on your fleshly container

You must carry it with you until total failure

So squander it not and do yourself a favor

Grant it good care and be your own savior
