Ripples in the Underworld

Ripples in the Underworld

A Poem by RedThroat

In the Elysian Fields a shadow weeps
Unmoved by gods and glory
Called a hero in his time
The price of fame he reaped

To repay his joyless life
Elysium was opened
Since he stands there silently
As if he kept the dime

A shade in a world of light
Staring into Lethe
Its gentle course and tranquil flow
Fill his empty eyes

Elysium, a home for men
Never to forget
Who by heroic deeds
Impacted life's events

Ripples on the stream
Of oblivion unfurl
The shade that had lingered there
Was nowhere to be seen

Eventually the ripples fade
An echo caused and done
Still light in the Elysian Fields
Lethe's flow unchanged
