Mirror in the Hall

Mirror in the Hall

Mirror in the Hall

Grey folds for age and old,

Our life compares,

Nailed to a wall, near a door in the hall,

No one seems to care.

Beauty departed, a true love dis-hearted,

No image to show,

No person to stare, no one dare,

Go near the mirror, in the hall.

Such a sweet piece of prose with a wonderful perspective of ageing. The last line and the importance of the mirror really gives the words an ambiguously beautiful and delicate meaning; turning the way in which we think about ageing as a negative into a positive personal introspective. The mirror encourages personal 'image'' to reflect the valuing of a life experienced rather than focusing on the physical appearance of an old person. A wonderful point of view expressed eloquently.
