Little Red's Broken Hearts Bar and Grill

Little Red's Broken Hearts Bar and Grill

A Poem by Roberta Weth
"

old slam poem

"

So,
What's a nice, young man like you
Doing in a place like this?
What's the matter? Are you shy?
Oh, you'll tell your story if I tell mine...
Ok... but there isn't much to tell
I was just walking, minding my own business
In This fabulous little red number
When this adorable young man
Walks into my life
Oh he was a looker, and well dressed
In a casual brown suit, with gumdrop buttons
Yes Gingie was the sweetest man I ever knew
But perhaps a little to sweet
The last time I saw him
He'd run off with that little vixen
Mr. Fox
After that came the woodsman
Not the best looker
But rugged and strong
Not mention he had a huge ....
Smile
But in the end he was
More than a little too old for me
In fact he ran away with my grandmother
After him was Wolf
Oh, did he have it all
Big, Bad and enormous...
Brown eyes
Not even opposed to... cuddling
But I think,
A red garbed delivery girl
Was a little less than glamorous
The last I heard about him
He was caught stalking the Sugar Plum fairy
My friends all say he'll come back
When little Miz Fairy
Finishes filing that restraining order
What was that dear?
Oh, you just want the special?
What kind of meat is it?
Why wolf of course!

Hah! This is great, I did drama at school and uni and I can actually see this being performed as a monologue... no wonder you received third. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although you might want to proof- read it again, just to fix it up.
This was a fantastic interpretation of Red Riding Hood, it was great how you incorporated other fairy tale folk... Well done!

I read it out loud, and I'd say this works well for a slam poem. I like how you lead up to something that seems obvious and then you turn it, for example...

"Not mention he had a huge ....
Smile"

That stuff works great on stage. Thanks for entering my contest!

I like this piece a lot, very well done. I love the way you tied the fairy tales together, kind of reminds me of something out of Into The Woods! I really enjoyed the humor in this piece, great timing in the writing of the humor! Nice write friend! Feel free to send me requests of your work!

I like it. It has a nice, humorous side. I like its free, open verse, wording style where it still can come across like it's telling a story.

I am assuming little red riding hood? It was a nice spin on little red riding hood, your rhythm was fantastic, your use of imagery painted a scene in my head. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you for sharing it with me and submitting it into my contest.
