Hope and Fear

A poem about the concept of hope and fear.

Hope and Fear

 

Hope and fear are both equally powerful forces,

One can raise you up, one can make you fall.

Hope is meant to be light and peace,

It is meant to give us purpose and meaning.

Fear stops us from doing what we love,

It puts up walls around us all.

Hope can also be the downfall of us,

Too much hope will make us unrealistic.

Fear can be used to give us drive,

It can propel you to overcome obstacles.

Hope must be tempered with realism and truth,

We must be hopeful, but we must remain aware.

Fear can be a terrible thing if it takes you over,

However, we need it to caution ourselves, to survive.

Hope and fear can sometimes be the same thing,

We must strive to know the difference.

For hope and fear are the reasons for all we do,

They control the very essence of our lives.

Accept both hope and fear in equal measure,

Do not let them consume you, or you will fall.

Thank you. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, I usually just write without overthinking it too much. I do like this one though.
